I love jewelry, and I know most women do too.  Whether it's a simple, handmade piece, or something more extravagant, it's all good.  Making something for yourself is as easy as picking up a few supplies from the craft store and finding a nice, comfortable, well lit spot and working.  These days, my drawer consists of mostly handmade jewelry that I made myself.  If you ever wanted to try your hand at making handmade jewelry, the web is loaded with free project ideas ranging from beginner level or more advanced.  There are also loads of project ideas for kids.  The next time you have a house full of girls and don't know what to do, why not pull out the beads, stretch cords and scissors and let the girls go to town?  Making a stretch bracelet is super simple and great way to get started in the world of handmade jewelry.

All you need to make your own handmade jewelry are
beads (craft stores have great kits that have a variety of beads in them, for a good price)
a spool of stretch cord
scissors
some crazy glue to keep the knot from coming undone
masking tape

To start making handmade jewelry, cut the stretch cord about an inch or two longer than you'll need (to fit comfortably around the girl's wrist).  Now it's time to let the girls creativities shine through.  Let them pick the beads they want and string them in whatever order they want.  Be sure to wrap a piece of tape on one end of the cord to keep the beads from falling off, and to make it easier for the girls to string their beads.  Don't forget, to leave some empty space to allow for knotting the cord.  Once they're done, simply tie a surgeons knot and put a dab or two of crazy glue on the knot to keep it secure.  Otherwise the knot can slip open, resulting in a puddle of beads on the floor or table.
